The re-discovery of tunnels beneath Fresno. California's Chinatown have sparked interest -- and elaborate rumors -- amongst historic preservationists and residents alike. But some say the rumors exaggerate the real purpose of the tunnels. "Tunnels in Fresno's Chinatown were rumored to have been so extensive that denizens could go across the neighborhood without ever seeing daylight. One tunnel was said to have extended under the dividing railway tracks so that men from the white side of town could reach Chinatown speak-easies undetected."
